In loving memory of Joan Irene Kochman Weil, born June 19, 1944, in Waco, Texas. She died on June 1, 2025, in Moraga, California. Joan graduated from Waco High School in 1962; she earned degrees from Tulane University, New Orleans, University of Chicago, School of Social Service Administration, and St. Mary's College, School of Education, in Moraga, California. In Chicago, she met her husband Fred Weil, and they were married on December 18, 1966. They moved from Chicago to Northern California where Fred pursued a law practice and Joan was a social worker in adoptions. Joan took off work to have her three children and then returned to work later in a nonpublic school to help severely emotionally disturbed students. This was her passion. After retirement, Joan devoted herself to her children and grandchildren, her first passion. Joan is survived by her husband Fred Weil, daughter Juliana Weil Tomasi (Christopher Tomasi), Lisa Weil (David Cunningham), and Michael Weil (Dannielle Weil), grandchildren Daniel Brown, Jessica Brown, Abbie Cunningham, Adena Weil, Shoshi Weil, and step-grandchild Jay Tomasi, and many loving friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Drs. Gerda and Walter Kochman, and brother Dr. Pete Kochman. A special thanks to the entire UCSF team, and especially oncologist Dr. Matthew Gubens. Joan will be greatly missed. Please, in lieu of flowers, make a donation in Joan's memory to University of California San Francisco Foundation, UCSF Medical Center, P.O. Box 45339, San Francisco, CA 94145-0339, Gubens Thoracic Oncology Research Fund (B7193); or electronically at <https://giving.ucsf.edu/fund/gubens-thoracic-oncology-research-fund>; or to a charity of your choice.

Services will be held at Temple Isaiah, 945 Risa Court, Lafayette, CA, at 10:00am on Thursday, June 5, 2025. Graveside service at Gan Shalom Cemetery to follow.
