Klaus was born in Germany in 1935, and at 3 years old moved to Shanghai with his parents to escape the Holocaust. While in Shanghai he was protected by a Danish family for a year and a half. Klaus was deeply loved by his parents. His father visited him every Sunday. His father's love and devotion were cherished by Klaus. He would wait in the park to meet his father while the Danish family attended church services. When Klaus was twelve he moved to the United Sates with his family. Several years later, he attended college in San Francisco. After college, he enlisted in the Army for 4 years before being honorably discharged. Shortly after leaving the Army, he married Marion who was the mother of his beloved children Devorah, Daniel (Lisa) and David, Grandfather of Sarah, Jordana (Isaac), Joshua, Eric, Jessica and Elizabeth. Marion passed away at the early age of 52. Klaus was devastated by the loss of his wife but remained strong. Soon after the death of Marion, Klaus became close with his friend Marta whom he knew from the local bank. Klaus and Marta were married in San Francisco in 1991 and became a large extended family with Marta's children, Maritza and Xiomara. They enjoyed traveling, especially to Israel for Passover every year for decades. Klaus felt so strongly about Marta, his nickname for her was "Marta Leben" which translates to, Marta My Life. They were married for 28 years. In 2007, Klaus was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease which resulted in severe orthopedic issues. Klaus remained at home during his last days surrounded by his loving family.
