Walter, Edwin Joseph - Age 69, died surrounded by loving care givers at his home in Novato, California on Monday, August 12, 2024. He was born on April 18, 1955, in Los Angeles, California to Stephen & Vivian Walter (née Cohn). Ned provided the inspiration and energy to his mother who was instrumental in building support for the passage of the Lanterman Act in 1969 which dramatically improved the lives of Californians with developmental disabilities and established regional centers to support individuals and families with throughout California. Edwin (Ned) was educated at The Cedars of Marin program for youth in 1963, and became a resident in 1991.

Ned is survived by his sisters, Daphne Walter Bransten of San Francisco and Jennifer Walter Fowler of New York City and his cousins, Stephen Cohn of Orinda and Marcia Cohn Growdon of Reno, Nevada. Ned is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many care givers from the Cedars of Marin including Frank Kemmeter, Teresa Thomas and Natasha Annenkova, whom he loved and whose love was returned by them.

Memorial services will be held in October to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts in Ned's memory to The Cedars Family Association of Cedars of Marin, Margaret Caramucci, Treasurer; The Memory and Aging Center (MAC) at UCSF Foundation; or the charity of your personal choice.
