MONIQUE MARIE AKNIN, born in Paris, France on July 26, 1925, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 21, 2018. Her parents were Theophile and Celestine Quere. Monique was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Marcel, as well as her children Linda, Jacques, Yves and Gilbert. She is survived by her children Patrick and Jean Pierre, daughter-in-law Nancy (Jacques), grandchildren Aaron (Cindy), Amanda, Michael and David, and great-grandchildren Marina Grace, Jack, and Stella.
Monique and Marcel, along with other members of the Aknin family, first came to the United States from France in the late 1950s. They found their home in the Emerald Hills area of Unincorporated Redwood City, where she lived for nearly 60 years until her passing. It was in Emerald Hills that Monique and Marcel raised their 6 children. It was in this same home where the smell of croissants and coffee often filled the air, and where she looked forward to visits from her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, as well as numerous other family members and friends.
Monique will forever be remembered as a sweet and compassionate person, who loved to cook, had a great sense of humor, and always put others above herself. She loved her family more than anything. She was a wonderful wife and loving mom, grandmother (our mémé) and great-grandmother. Above all, she is a role model for all of us, as someone who always persevered, and kept a positive outlook and mindset, despite life's many challenges.
